WeCAN Works DIGITAL LITERACY TRAINING MATERIALS

 

WeCAN Works Digital Literacy program utilizes the Microsoft Unlimited Potential Digital Literacy curriculum, and provides the opportunity to learn basic computer and software skills and obtain a certificate from Microsoft recognizing the accomplishment. The only prerequisite for taking the program is the ability to read a newspaper!

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS


MODULE 1: COMPUTER BASICS


Computer Basics 1

This course explains: the main parts of a computer, the keyboard, and how to use the mouse. It also defines common computer terminology such as program, data, network, ect. Prerequisites: None

Computer Basics 1 Program Assessment

Computer Basics 2

This continuation of computer basics explains the features of different computers and the role of memory. It describes different types of productivity, communications, educational, and entertainment programs. It also explains the features and functions of Windows XP. Prerequisites: None

Computer Basics 2 Program Assessment

 

Windows 7 Basics

Explore new ways to help you speed through everyday tasks. Learn how to find and manage your files using Windows 7.


MODULE 2: INTERNET BASICS

 

Internet Basics 1

This course explains the purpose of the internet, what is needed to connect to it, and important terms related to the internet. Also it explains the World wide web and how to perform searches and transactions. Prerequisites: Computer Basics 1, 2

Internet Basics 2

This course explains what email is and how to use it. It also explains the features of online communities and how instant messaging works. Prerequisites: Computer Basics 1, 2

MODULE 3: PRODUCTIVITY PROGRAMS

 

MS Features and Commands 2007

This course explains the common features and commands of various types of productivity programs. Students will also learn about the main components of the user interface, keyboard shortcuts, and various key combinations.

MS Features and Commands Program Assessment

MS Word 2007

This course explains the basic tasks that you can perform by using a word processor. Students will learn to work with text, tables, and pictures. Students will also learn how to use language tools.

MS Word Program Assessment

MS Excel 2007

This course explains the components of a spreadsheet and how to store data in it. Students will also learn to perform basic mathematical tasks, and create charts and graphs in a spreadsheet. In addition, students will learn about the various options available for printing a spreadsheet.

MS PowerPoint 2007

This course explains the basic functions of presentation program, how to create a presentation, and add graphics and multimedia to a presentation. Students will also learn to identify the various options available to print your presentation in different formats.

MS Access 2007

This course explains the basic tasks that you can perform by using a database program. Students will learn how to create and use a database. In addition, students will learn how to generate various types of reports by using queries.

Computer Security 1

This course explains the need for protecting your computer hardware, software, and electronic data from damage, loss, and theft. Students will learn about the various solutions and devices that can be used to protect the data on computer. It also introduces some common best practices to protect the operating system, software, and data on the computer.

This course explains the various measures that can help protect the computer from various threats associated with the use of computers and the Internet. It also explains how to configure the computer to automatically update its security software.

This course explains the various characteristics of digital audio. It describes the concepts of recording, copying, and converting digital audio. It also explores the features of advanced speech technologies.


Digital Video

This course explains the various characteristics of digital video. It describes what digital video editing is and the various output formats for digital video. It also explores the features of different Web video technologies.


Digital Photography

This course explains the various characteristics of digital photography. It describes the benefits, features, and workings of a digital camera. Students will learn how digital images can be managed and edited. It also explores the features of different types of printers that are available for printing photos.
